scalene anterior muscle   (R, L) is a muscle in the neck; these muscles are often also classified in the lateral vertebral region. Each is responsible for movements of the vertebral column and aids in respiration.

Origin:➤  3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th cervical vertebrae  anterior tubercles of the transverse processes

Insertion:➤ Scalene tubercle on the inner border and upper surface of the 1st rib 
Innervation: ➤Anterior divisions of the lower cervical nerves (C04-C06) 
Action:➤Bends spinal column laterally ,and  elevates first and second ribs

Origin:➤ Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of the lower six cervical vertebrae (CO2-C07)

 Scalenus posterior muscle (r, I) is a muscle in the neck that is also often also classified in the lateral vertebral region. It is responsible for movements of the vertebral column and aides in respiration.

Origin:➤ Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of the lower two or three cervical vertebrae (C05-C07)

Insertion:➤ Outer surface of the 2nd rib; occasionally blended with the scalenus medius 
Innervation:➤ Anterior divisions of the lower cervical nerves (C06-C08)
