scalene anterior muscle (R, L) is a muscle in the neck;
these muscles are often also classified in the lateral vertebral region. Each
is responsible for movements of the vertebral column and aids in respiration.
Origin:➤ 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th cervical vertebrae anterior tubercles of the transverse processes
Insertion:➤ Scalene tubercle on
the inner border and upper surface of the 1st rib
Innervation: ➤Anterior
divisions of the lower cervical nerves (C04-C06)
Action:➤Bends spinal column laterally ,and elevates first and second ribs
Scalene middle muscle (r, I) is a muscle in the neck;
these muscles are often also classified in the lateral vertebral region. Each
is responsible for movements of the vertebral column and aids in respiration.
Origin:➤ Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of
the lower six cervical vertebrae (CO2-C07)
Insertion:➤ Upper surface of the 1st
rib
Innervation:➤ Anterior divisions of the lower cervical nerves (C03-C08)
Action:➤ Bends spinal column laterally ,and elevates first and second ribs
Blood
supply:➤ Ascending cervical artery
Origin:➤ Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of
the lower two or three cervical vertebrae (C05-C07)
Insertion:➤ Outer surface of
the 2nd rib; occasionally blended with the scalenus medius
Innervation:➤ Anterior divisions of the lower cervical nerves (C06-C08)
Action:➤ Bends spinal column laterally ,and elevates first and second ribs
Blood supply:➤ Ascending
cervical artery
